Beer Tent

What village show would be complete without the traditional beer tent? We are fortunate in having the services of our local landlord Barry Lax, from The Eagle & Child, who will be hosting services and supervising sales to our patrons.

In keeping with our aim to provide a traditional entertainment day we will be offering a number of Real Ales, including one specially brewed to celebrate the return of the show to the show field.

The Auckley Show Beer Festival

A choice of ten real ales will be provided in the bar in addition to the usual range of drinks. These ales have been specially selected by the brewers of our own special ale and include two ales from the Idle Brewery, a small local brewery recently established at West Stockwith. We hope that you will support this event, as many of us hope that it will become a regular feature of the show.

The Idle Brewery is a fascinating new venture in a traditional craft. Its home is at the White Hart Inn at West Stockwith, a “Good Beer Guide” regular. It is situated just inside Nottinghamshire at the confluence of the River Idle with the River Trent, north of Gainsborough. It was the idea of former pub landlord Brian Cooper, who lives in the village, and along with landlord, Wayne Moore, set up the brewery in an ‘old cart shed barn’ which is several hundred years old, with equipment from the former Broadstone Brewery in Retford.

That was back in August 2006 and since then it has undergone comprehensive refurbishment .The barn itself has been altered to incorporate large glass doors and viewing windows allowing the enthusiast unrivalled access to the brewery, within the comfort of the beer garden of the White Hart. The new venture has been named the Idle Brewery in recognition of the nearby river and the first brew “Idle Landlord” went on sale in early May 2007. The beer has been very well received; it is a smooth, rich-copper coloured premium bitter, and has been followed by several others of varying characters. Brian Cooper does much of the brewing work but he has had advice and guidance from former Springhead and Broadstone brewer Alan Gill.
