Rocket Launching

As part of a Science Display, pupils of Hill House School will be demonstrating the launching of rockets, Using a variety of components a competition will be staged to find which rocket can be launched the furthest.

Having ensured the safety of competitors and the public, launches will be undertaken and measured under strict supervision in order to discover what it takes for a really successful lift off.

Children are seldom keen to study lessons. But today the classroom is abandoned in favour of the playing field. In a fun way to explore physics practical lessons are learnt. This competition aims to show that science is anything but boring.

This is one way that Hill House School shows its innovative approach to making learning relevant and fun. It is also especially appropriate that the school should be with us at the Auckley Show as they will soon be moving the whole school into its new home in Auckley. The new site is based at the former RAF Finningley and can be seen opposite the entrance to Robin Hood Airport on Hayfield Lane. Hill House is an independent day school for boys and girls from 2 1/2 to 16 years old. Originally two schools, Hill House School and St. Mary's School, it combines the best of the traditions and values of both. Hill House was a charitable trust prep school established in 1912 catering for children up to Common Entrance. Privately owned St. Mary's was established in 1959 and gave children the opportunity to study up to G.C.S.E. Both schools were highly successful and in July 2002 the two schools merged under the Hill House Charitable trust.

The Auckley Show is grateful to Hill House School for staging this demonstration and for providing sponsorship to assist in the organisation of our community event.
